How Configuration Windows Work
You decide when and how often you need access to your feeder. It's all about the tradeoff between convenience and battery life.
🚫 OFF
Best for: Max battery life
WiFi stays off entirely. To connect, press the wake button or power-cycle the controller — the interface comes up on demand, right at the feeder.
Battery impact: None
🌽 AFTER FEEDINGS
Best for: Checking in while you're out
WiFi turns on for 10 minutes after each scheduled feed. Swing by at feed time and the interface is already up — no button press needed.
Battery impact: Minimal (~10 min per feed)
📅 CUSTOM WINDOWS
Best for: Most users
Pick up to 2 daily windows (e.g., 8am & 6pm for 10 min each). The controller wakes itself, opens WiFi, then goes back to sleep.
Battery impact: 10 min/day = ~1% per month
🔄 ALWAYS ON
Best for: Solar setups
WiFi stays on continuously. Connect anytime, make changes immediately. Ideal for troubleshooting or frequent adjustments.
Battery impact: Significant (solar recommended)
💡 Pro Tip: Start Conservative
Start with one window (e.g., 8am for 5 minutes). You can always increase frequency later. With solar or a large battery pack, set it to whatever works best for you.
ℹ Important: Your Feeder Always Runs
Configuration Windows are an optional convenience feature, not required for the feeder to operate.
The feeder will always feed per the schedule you set. Configuration windows are only for checking status remotely or updating schedules and preferences.
You can access the controller anytime — press the wakeup button or power-cycle it to connect, change settings, and review the event log.
Some users may never need to access the controller again once the feeding schedule is configured — it just keeps running as long as it has power. After power is restored (ie: new battery) it remembers everything and just starts working — NO RE-PROGRAMMING!
